A company based on Estonian private capital, the objective of the activities of which is the development, sales and use of new waste treatment technologies.
As a result of nearly 10-year development, we have worked out a robust, reliable technology with a maximum cost saving, with which it is possible to recycle approximately 100% of consumer waste based on dry weight.
From 2008 to 2013 we operated the first Estonian MBT terminal in the area of the Sillamäe landfill. We tested various technologies and methods. In the course of experimental production, over 45,000 tons of waste was mechanically and biologically treated, which would have been stored as an alternative. In the course of biomechanical treatment, ca 2,500 tons of refuse-derived fuel was produced, which was used in the AS Kunda Nordic Tsement plant.
An overwhelming part of recycled waste was supposed to be used at the enclosing works of the Sillamäe landfill as a waste mass covering material, in order to avoid the emission of gases stored in the landfill earlier.
Based on the results given in various research papers, it is safe to state that a minimum of ca 50 Nm3 of landfill gas per one ton of stored waste will be produced annually, and this will occur in at least 10 years. With biological treatment of consumer waste in Ecocleaner’s MBT terminal, the production of landfill gas in the amount of ca 6,400,000 Nm3 produced when storing waste in Ida-Virumaa was avoided in the course of 5 years; the volume is increasing.
Landfill gas composing mostly of CHx gases (including methane) is an element disrupting the ozone layer 20 times more compared to CO2. Another significant environmental impact of storing consumer waste involves the production of organic acids and a diversity of half-decayed organic, nitrogen, etc., compounds in the waste stored, as a result of which hazardous leachate is produced when mixed with rainwater, which damages the nature surrounding the landfill in various ways.
